When a DIY timber flooring restoration project didn't quite go to plan, the professionals stepped in to help give this seaside cottage a new lease on life.
While Australians love DIY, not all projects go exactly to plan. Sometimes, it makes sense to partner with the experts to achieve the ultimate result. And that's exactly what happened in Rosebud, on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, when First Choice Sanding and Intergrain Trade & Industrial joined forces to rescue a flooring restoration that needed professional support.
Earlier this year, Andrew from First Choice Sanding received an SOS call from a client who had run into challenges preparing and sanding their older style timber floors. The flooring restoration was part of a bigger renovation on the home, and the young family wanted it finished so they could move in. But they did not want to compromise on quality. Their goal was to restore the floors back to their natural colour and original beauty, while increasing durability.
According to Andrew, the timber floors had seen a number of different treatments and coatings over their 40-plus year life. A conversation with Pat Guarnaccia, Intergrain Trade & Industrial Technical Sales Executive, focused on a solution that invested in expert floor preparation, delivered the final aesthetic the client was seeking, while meeting the renovation's strict timeline.
Designed to be applied by professional floor sanders and applicators, the Enviropro range offers low toxicity that meets the VOC requirements of the Green Building Council Australia, while offering efficient ease of application, to protect and beautify timber.
After the expert preparation of filling, sanding and vacuuming by First Choice Sanding was complete, it was time to coat the floors. To restore the timber back to its former glory, Pat recommended a two-part system:
Coat 1: Intergrain Enviropro TimberSeal Ultra – a high performance water based sealer, designed to maintain the natural colour of timber. Formulated for easy sanding and powdering up when screened.
Coats 2 and 3: Intergrain Enviropro Endure 2 Pack Matt finish – this extremely durable, clear water based polyurethane is ideal for high traffic areas. Designed to maintain the natural colour of timber, Endure 2 Pack will not darken or yellow over time.
The process took just three days – an exceptional outcome for the client whose young family could move in straight away and enjoy the stunning transformation without concerns of lingering fumes.
The old timber floors now have a new lease on life, beautifully showcased in the 'before and after' photography.
