This luxury home builder uses our advanced timber coatings technology to protect and enhance gorgeous timber features across its stunning display homes.
Embracing the use of sustainable timber in modern residential architecture, Averna Homes injects the organic warmth of natural materials throughout their designs. This leading builder of luxury homes in Perth recently completed three stunning display homes, each boasting minimalist designs that have been softened by the extensive use of timber.
The striking timber detailing on each of the homes required a high performance, durable coating to protect the timber from UV exposure, weathering, moisture and abrasion. However, the designers did not want the organic beauty of the timber obscured in any way. Instead, they envisioned a subtle luxe finish that would highlight and enhance the timber’s natural colour and grain.
Paul Spatara, General Manager of Averna Homes, has long relied on premium Intergrain products to protect and enhance featured timber on new home builds. Intergrain T&I Business Development Executive, Taryn Nostrini, works closely with Paul and the team at Averna to ensure they’re up to date with the latest timber coatings technology.
The recently completed Villa Rose home features the striking Japanese style of vertical cladding known as Shu Sugi Ban. The moody shade of the timber, Accoya Heavy Scorched, was deepened to an inky black with three coats of Intergrain Industrial Solid Timber Stain in Charred Black. This heavily pigmented stain penetrated the timber, allowing the natural texture to show through and providing protection against UV exposure and weathering.
The Shangri-La home is a showcase of warm minimalism, with an array of cedar panelling featured throughout the design, balancing out the palette of cool tones and stone materials. Three coats of Intergrain UltraClear Exterior in Matt was applied to all interior and exterior timber, building a tough, marine grade finish that won’t yellow over time. Formulated for Australian conditions, this coating incorporates advanced technology to protect timber from UV exposure and weathering.
Similarly, the Villa Vita design boasts extensive use of timber, with wide eaves lined in red cedar, and a cedar ceiling flowing from the kitchen to the outdoor entertaining zone. Once again, three coats of Intergrain UltraClear Exterior in Matt gave all the timber a highly durable protective finish that enhanced the natural beauty of the grain. This home was built and coated five years ago, and the timber has retained the same stunning finish.
"Our goal was to protect the timber on these homes without altering the natural characteristics the material. We want to stay true to the organic appeal of the timber, while using a coating that will stand the test of time," Paul says.
"Our applicators tell us Intergrain products are very easy to apply, and this usability allows them to produce the best results. They also have the versatility to be specified both internally and externally,” Paul adds. “The resulting finish looks great and timber maintenance is easy with a simple light sand and a re-coat."
