When one of Queensland's leading joiners, Duce Timber Windows & Doors needed a tannin blocking, priming solution, they turned to Intergrain Trade & Industrial's Solvent Based Tannin Blocker White.
Sustainable and robust hardwood timbers such as Merbau, New Guinea Rosewood and Spotted Gum are the heroes of a large proportion of Australia's joinery, providing the raw materials for high-end, durable interior and exterior timber work.
Preparation of these timbers before installation is paramount to ensure stain-causing tannins are blocked from leaching into adjacent or nearby building materials such as porous stone and other timbers.
Duce Timber Windows & Doors is a fourth-generation family business specialising in the production of custom-designed timber windows, timber doors, and architectural timber products. After recently introducing the use of Intergrain's Industrial Solvent Based Tannin Blocker White to their custom in-house production process, they haven't looked back. Every piece requiring priming is treated with the revolutionary tannin blocking solution.
Duce Timber Windows & Doors Managing Director Adam Duce explains the importance of priming beautiful hardwood timber.
"The hardwoods used in our bespoke joinery process are hand-selected to Duce's exacting standards," he says. "Most of these hardwoods leach tannins for a period of time, which can stain and damage other materials. Our manufacturing process offers the priming of our timber products to minimise the leaching of tannins on surrounding surfaces and to provide the initial site protection of our timber products."
The Industrial Solvent Based Tannin Blocker White solution was created to address the priming requirements of these popular and enduring hardwoods:
• Intergrain Industrial Solvent Based Tannin Blocker White is a solvent based, opaque white tannin blocking primer that provides moisture and UV protection for timber during the transport and installation process. It provides a sound surface for subsequent coats and is suitable for interior and exterior use.
• Tannin is water soluble, so water based priming products can draw the tannin out of the timber. With Intergrain Industrial Solvent Based Tannin Blocker White, the tannins are locked in for good!
Intergrain's Business Development Executive Damian Abbott says joiners value Intergrain Industrial Solvent Based Tannin Blocker White because it eliminated the risk of drawing tannins out of the timber substrate.
"In addition, hardwoods expand and contract in Australia's harsher environmental conditions," he says. "Intergrain's durable solution is not only a tannin blocking primer, but it provides strong UV protection to increase the timber's longevity while it is waiting to be top coated. Another benefit is that it can be applied by brush, roller or spray."
Damian has seen first hand the results of Duce Timber Windows & Door's skilled joiners at work.
"Duce's experienced team of award-winning craftsmen combine their expertise with Intergrain's advanced formula to create custom-made, one-of-a-kind window frames and doors," he says. "Duce's Australian-made products, treated with Intergrain Trade & Industrial's Solvent Based Tannin Blocker, offer enduring beauty and protection and are made to last a lifetime."
Adam Duce says his team are thrilled with the results of priming with Intergrain's Tannin Blocker solution.
"It provides the perfect base for our clients' new timber products to give them the ability to have a long lasting finish with the addition of topcoats coats applied on site."
