Dark spots on your cladding? Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner can help!

Have you ever had dark spots appear on your cladding once installed? Well, we’re here to clear up the mystery for you!

Firstly, let’s cover off why you’re seeing dark spots

Cladding is typically installed using metal screws, which in turn can produce metal shavings. When metal shavings are exposed to water or moisture, they will oxidise and will result in dark spots appearing, potentially in the space of 24 hours.

The images below demonstrate what ASH’s IronAsh cladding with metal shavings on it looks like before and 1 hour after the timber was wet down with water.

These dark spots are commonly mistaken as mould. However mould is not possible in this test as mould cannot grow in such a short timeframe.

But how do you fix it?

Good news is that it’s an easy fix. Intergrain have created a product to clean the dark spots completely off - Intergrain UltraPrep Timber Cleaner.

Simply apply UltraPrep Timber Cleaner following the label instructions to the affected areas and it'll be as good as new.

UltraPrep Timber Cleaner is a high strength cleaner that contains naturally occurring, bio-degradable organic acids that will help restore and prepare weathered, grey, rust or tannin stained timber.

Hot tip from ASH: to prevent any metal staining, keep the cladding well wrapped, and stored and protected from weather until installation.

So there you have it, an easy fix for a common cladding issue.
