An adaptive re-use of an existing 1920’s industrial building to house a 60 place childcare centre and community space in Darlinghurst, the East Sydney Learning Centre was a clear winner of the Travel Bursary Award. The project cleverly created a sanctuary in the middle of a bustling part of Sydney with fine attention to detail and true integration into the space. Timber has been effectively utilised alongside other materials and the judges praised the interesting layering of materials.
